Advanced Criminalistics - Document Examination Assignment

Advanced Criminalistics - Document Examination - Assignment Example Spacing, inks, dates, pen pressure, and numerals used are some of the subtleties that make handwritten transactions unique. Handwriting also helps investigators determine the date the transaction or any changes made after writing the paper. For instances, if the identity thief erased or made some content obscure, a forensic investigator may be able to notice through handwriting. Handwriting can denote numerous aspects of the paper transaction that range from simple records to whole contracts. Handwriting is the aspect of the identity criminal that makes distinguishes and offers the likelihood of detection as irrespective of how proficient they are at stealing identities. Often, a subtlety of handwriting gives the identity thief away. A second advantage of using paper for transactions is protection by state laws. State laws secure individuals and organizations against crimes committed by an identity thief who uses paper documents such as stolen or falsified checks. Although federal laws apply to identify theft carried out electronically, state laws apply to electronic transactions that the state considered paper. States allow this double application when investigators are unsure of the kind of paper transaction the identity criminal used to carry out the offense. Forgery is a means of committing identity theft, which occurs when the perpetrator forms or uses any counterfeit information identifying an unreal person or a real individual without his or her consent. Owing to such information is enough evidence for a conviction by the court if the individual means to apply the information illegally. In such a case, the person commits identity theft. In terms of document falsification, the identity thief changes modify or adjusts a document with the aim of misleading another individual.

Educational Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Educational - Research Proposal Example Literature Review: The benefits derived through the Internet have resulted in widespread use of the Internet by students. This has come at the cost of use of the Internet for academic cheating purposes. Use of the Internet for cheating by students occurs in all branches of study and at all levels of study. Educational institutions tend to downplay the issue of the use of the Internet fir academic cheating, Research Question: Does the use of the internet devalue the worth of a degree to the stakeholders? Methodology: Students and the teaching faculty are the participants of this research. Focus group questionnaire is applied to the students and structured open ended questionnaire is applied to the teaching facility as data collection instruments. Fifty students and twenty faculty members are the targeted participants. Results: Analysis of the literature review shows that academic cheating occurs at a high level, which demeans the value of the degree obtained. 1. Statement of the Topic Cyber researchers or cyber cheats: does the use of the internet devalue the worth of a degree to the stakeholders? 2. Review of Literature The pervasion of the Internet into educational institutions is both dramatic and striking. ... It has brought with it concerns that could lead to worries in education and society (Hope, 2007). The Internet demonstrates the use of technology in stimulating learning in students (Schroder et al, 2002). The benefits that accrue from the Internet have caused the Internet not to be restricted to the lower levels of education, but in all the higher education forums (Gunashekaran et al, 2002). The benefits that have come with the Internet in education have a price tag in that it encourages students to cheat. According to Macklem, 2006, it is the widespread use of the Internet that has led to plagiarism and academic cheating becoming common. Plagiarism is not a new concept. It is just that the Internet has made it easier to copy the works of others (Fisher & Hill, 2004). Easy access to an electronic copy makes it easy to cut, copy and paste, which is a temptation not many students can resist (Errami & Garner, 2008). The popular use of plagiarism extends into the realm of professional c ourses too (Kenny, 2007). Evaluating for plagiarism and academic cheating in physiotherapy, pharmacy, humanities, business, biomedical science and education, it was found to be present in all these branches of study, but variances were observed in the extent of indulgence (Bates et al, 2005). The issue of plagiarism and cheating has not become such a matter for concern in society, because of the lack of awareness, as universities tend to keep issues of plagiarism and cheating in academics under wraps (Gulli, 2007). However, the problem of cheating in academics will not be under wraps for long as it is becoming a part of the student culture, which will be difficult to turn around, as according to Fisher and Hill, 2004, p.18, â€Å"80% of the country’s best students

Colonial Middle Class American Life Essay -- American History essays r

Middle Class Americans American middle class life was greatly influenced throughout 1870-1917. There were many profound changes, however the American industrialization and urbanization were the most rapid and unquestionably the most important. The industrialist brought forth household names that are still around today such as Swift, Armour, Westinghouse, Pillsbury, Pullman, Rocketfeller, Carnegie, and Duke. Due to the rapid movement of industrialization, so began a movement of urbanization. Between 1860 and 1910, urban population increased sevenfold and by the 1920’s more than half of all Americans lived in cities. Along with the cities came more use of electricity, electric lights, telephones, and eventually appliances. Appliances virtually revolutionized the lives of the middle and upper class Americans, as did Henry Ford’s mass production of the Model T. Throughout these forty-seven years many middle class Americans were influenced by the ads from companies, for example Sears Roebuck & Com pany. Not only were there adds for clothing and women’s and men’s’ apparel but for automobiles, phones, and housing. There were many values, hopes, and fears Americans contemplated with as well as the advertising business’ trying to lure Americans into purchasing products by listing consequences of using (or not using) their products.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Throughout the ads that I reviewed there were many of â€Å"so called† expected consequences of using or not using the products advertised. For example, there is an ad for A ScrapBook for â€Å"Homely Women† Only that is dedicated for women who want to have unwanted facial or bodily features removed or hidden. This two-part book gives advice for ugly scars, mouths, fingertips, crooked teeth, unwanted freckles, pimples, moles, etc. The expected consequences of this product are to take a below average looking woman and turn her into an attractive woman. The slogan even read, â€Å"We dedicate this collection of toilet secrets, not to the pretty women (they already have enough advantages, without being told to double their beauty) but to the plainer sisterhood, to those that look in the glass and are not satisfied with what they see.† After reviewing this advertisement, it is obviously directed to women with low self-esteem. Thus, the consequence s being that if a woman were to use the book of remedies it will enhance her beauty and self esteem. As... ... power of credit, but there were those that struggled with payments each month. Also with all the new industries coming into effect it was putting the â€Å"little man† out of business. In turn, this brought fear for the working Americans that were trying to stay financially stable. The biggest fear that Americans had was coming forth of World War I, especially families. Women feared losing their husbands to the draft and visa versa for men. Without their husbands women would have to be the sole providers of the household and men would fear for the sake of their families health and financial income. Middle class Americans coped very well with the changing values, promising hopes, and potential fears they encountered during the turn of the century.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In conclusion to the research I have done on middle class American life, not much has changed. The advertisements are still around today, and some even have the same slogan. Credit is as large as ever, and still is increasing the purchasing power for middle class Amercians. The values of people range dramatically from each individual to another and the fears of financial stability and war still haunt every American one-century later.

Developing Yourself-Important Skills for the Workplace Today

Developing yourself-important skills for the workplace today Nowadays employers are looking for people with analytical reasoning skills, communication skills and creativity. But why, this is an obvious problem. Because all employers want their companies or enterprises can better develop. They do not want to hire people who do not have competence to destroy their company. However these above skills are important for the companies and enterprises. The following is an analysis by why employers look for people with these skills. First is the analytical reasoning skills, it is deals with your ability to assess a situation, seek multiple perspectives, gather more information, and identify key issues that need to be addressed. Highly analytical reasoning thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, improving, and streamlining complex work processes. The world values people who have good analytical skills, who can see the big picture from the details, and who can think in terms of multi-disciplinary combinations. According to Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, it’s â€Å"interdisciplinary combinations – design and technology, mathematics and art – that produce YouTube and Google. † In this age of overflowing information, in which the number of words on the Internet is close to surpassing the total number of words spoken in the history of humanity, we must know how to analyze and deal with information; to know what are good sources of information, to be able to access it and use discrimination to make effective use of it. As a whole, analytical ability is an important skill which the college students or professionals must develop in order to achieve the success in the workplace. For example if you want to buy an air conditioner. You analyze the air conditioner itself, is it a good brand, is it present technology, and what about compare to other present technologies. So what about your decision? And than you analyze the financial impact, do you have money for it, do you use cash or credit for it? After that you analyze do you home have a place to put it? So you look at all point of view of the same situation. If you want to be analytical, you have to weigh up your selection, think about them before you act, and not act on first impulse about much of anything. Second is the communication skills, Communication is the heart of every organization. Everything you do in the workplace results from communication. Thereby good reading, writing, speaking and listening skills are essential if tasks are going to be completed and goals achieved. As you develop your career you will find various reasons why successful communication skills are important to you. Shirley Taylor, March 11, 2009). Why it is important to you, because you will get a lot of benefits, for example: you will need good communication skills to make sure your application letter is fluency and acted upon. You will need to communicate perfect during your interview if you are to sell yourself and get the job you want. You will need to discuss problems, give instructions, work in teams, and interact with colleagues and clients. If you wa nt to achieve co-operation and effective teamwork, good human relations skills are essential. As the workplace is also becoming more global, there are many factors to consider if you want to communicate well in such a diverse environment. The most successful corporation understands that if they want to be successful in today's business world, good communication at all levels is essential. Today's workplace is constantly changing, so learning more about effective communication will help us all adapt to our changing environments. (Shirley Taylor, March 11, 2009). Last but not the least, it is the creativity. â€Å"A man of great common sense and good taste, meaning thereby a man without originality or moral courage. (Sir Walter Besant). Some researchers define creativity as combining existing elements in an innovative way to create a new purpose or result. But others see creativity as the ability to generate new ideas from looking at how things are related. The book keys to success (2009, p. 110-111). Creativity is one of the most important things in the world because if each person did not have creativity then everything the same. Each person has there own type of creativity and that is why there are unique art, movies, clothing, etc. And then let’s talk about how we can develop these important skills while in college. Some suggest about analytical skills: I think to open teacher-student relationship helps the student become a good advice. It's difficult for the student to do this if he is not engaged or open to what the teacher has to say. And the other method is learning how to question. Everyone knows how to question. It is part of what makes us human- we meet new people and ask them where they come from, what they do for a job, whether they are married. However, as you studies progress you will find that you need to think more deeply about how you question and type of questions that you ask. About communication skills there are some tips for improving your communication style. Adjust to the other styles of communication. Don't think it is too late to change your way of conversing because it's been years. You had to learn to communicate in the first place and you can unlearn certain behaviors or change them. Sometimes we get stuck in a communication rut. (Peter Murphy, 2007). Don't pick on others for communicating differently. If we all communicated in the same way, we'd soon be bored with each other. (Peter Murphy, 2007). Last is about how to develop creativity. Brainstorming is also referred to as divergent thinking: you start with a question and then let your mind diverge-go in many different directions-in searches of solutions. Brainstorming is deliberate creativity thinking. When you Brainstorm, try to generate ideas without thinking about how useful they are; evaluate their quality later. Brainstorming works well in groups because group members can become inspired by, and make creativity use of, one another’s ideas. The book keys to success (2009 p. 111).

So far we’ve learned about Hinduism and Buddhism in India two of the most common religions found in India. One of the many things about learning about different culture is the religion that is come with. Religion is one of the many things that are unique to each and every culture. Religion views are what make a group of individuals come together and form a community. In core 7 we are learning about Hinduism and Buddhism learning about India and their religion views has helped me see the world in a different way and understand religion and a way of living in a whole new perspective. Review Of Surgery Versus Surgery Alone For Colorectal Cancer

Research Summary Study # 1 Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Followed by Surgery Versus Surgery Alone for Colorectal Cancer This study was meta-analysis review, over six studies using randomized controlled clinical trials, and is Level I on the hierarchy of evidence (Stillwell et al., 2010). These trials were conducted between 2002 and 2012, and the researcher conduced their search in 2014. They compared 1393 patients (50.6% of their population studied) using neoadjuvant chemotherapy 1358 patients (49.2%) using surgery alone. All patients had colorectal cancer, and mirrored each other in the percent of male vs. female and age. The researchers separated their data by the location of the tumor –ascending, descending, transverse, sigmoid and rectum.†¦show more content†¦According to their conclusions overall among all of the studies, neoadjuvant chemotherapy seemed to reduce or delay the possibility of distant metastasis—especially to the liver— in patients with colorectal cancer (Huang, et al., 2014). Study # 2 Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy and Surgical Management of the Axilla in Breast Cancer: A Review of Current Data This is a systematic review that has looked over several randomized studies, nine in total, in regards to whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) can impact patients who would otherwise have an axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). However, in those with stage III, 72% will have a mastectomy instead of BCS (American Cancer Society, 2016). The researchers found studies that showed that some patients who could undergo breast-conserving therapy (BCT) after their tumor had been down-staged. The researchers mentioned data from another study that followed more than 403 patients, 22% of which had metastasis, but had a complete response to neoadjuvant treatment.
